There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Saarlouis/Dillingen (8-9) was edged on the road by ninth ranked Giessen Pointers (7-10) 79-76 on Saturday. Giessen Pointers forced 20 Saarlouis/Dillingen turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Tyrell Sturdivant (201-95, college: Stony Brook) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Lucas Mayer (183-99) chipped in 17 points and 4 steals. Four Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. American guard Ricky Easterling (189-83, college: Bridgewater) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and Bulgarian Filip Kamenov (200-95) added 19 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Giessen Pointers maintains ninth place in South-West with 7-10 record. Loser Saarlouis/Dillingen keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Giessen Pointers will face Stuttgart (#10) on the road in the next round.
