Regular Season Round 18: Randers - Bakken 96-84
Date: January 25, 2020
There was a change at the BasketLigaen leadership position after last games. The most shocking disappointment of round 18 was a defeat of league's leader Bakken (14-3). They were defeated by third ranked Randers (16-3) 96-84 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the 14-game winning streak of Bakken. The game was mostly controlled by Randers. Bakken managed to win fourth quarter 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Randers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Randers made 8 blocks. American guard Josh Fortune (196-94, college: Colorado) scored 27 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and French center Jonathan Jeanne (218-97, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks during the contest. Fortune is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican-American forward Christopher Ortiz (203-93, college: Kent St., agency: Network Sports International) with 16 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Adama Darboe (190-86) scored 12 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Bakken's coach Steffen Wich rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Randers have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Bakken dropped to the third place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Randers. Bakken will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Randers will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Copenhagen at home.
