Very expected game when 11th ranked Dorsten (7-11) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Hertener Loewen (11-8) 83-78 on Saturday. Hertener Loewen outrebounded Dorsten 47-25 including a 23-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dorsten was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Dijon Smith (204-89, college: Ft.Hays State) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds. Point guard Felix Fuhrmann (174-90) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four Hertener Loewen players scored in double figures. American guard Mike Nwabuzor (188, college: N.Mexico Highlands) produced 31 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and center Wilhelm Koehler (206-88) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Hertener Loewen maintains sixth place in West with 11-8 record. Loser Dorsten dropped to the twelfth position with 11 games lost. Hertener Loewen will face higher ranked Dragons Rhoendorf (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dorsten will play against Recklinghausen (#5) and hope to win that game.
