Regular Season Round 16: Ovarense - CP Natacao 87-65

We should mention about the upset which took place in Ovar, where higher ranked CP Natacao (6-10) was outleveled in a road game by eleventh ranked Ovarense (4-12) 87-65 on Thursday. Ovarense dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to CP Natacao's 32. They outrebounded CP Natacao 45-28 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ovarense looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by CP Natacao's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Tess Bruffey (193-95, college: Lubbock Christian) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists and point guard Ana Raimundo (167-93) who added 18 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Bruffey is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Coach Jorge Maia's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Martha Burse (168-96, college: Indianapolis, agency: Whitecox Lyons SM) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and guard Eva Carregosa (-2) scored 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ovarense maintains eleventh position with 4-12 record. CP Natacao lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. They share the position with Vitoria SC. Ovarense will meet at home bottom-ranked CAB Madeira (#12) in the next round. CP Natacao will play against Benfica (#5) in Lisbona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
