Regular Season Round 22: Lietkabelis - Nevezis 85-69

Very expected game in Panevezys where 9th ranked Nevezis (6-15) was defeated by second ranked Lietkabelis (14-7) 85-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Lietkabelis. Nevezis managed to win third quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Nevezis 41-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Lietkabelis looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Gilvydas Biruta (203-91, college: URI) fired 21 points and 4 steals (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for the winners. Latvian Rihards Kuksiks (199-88, college: ASU) chipped in 16 points. DR Congolese center Viny Okouo (215-97) produced 11 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Arminas Urbutis (206-86, college: Hofstra, agency: Octagon Europe) added 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Four Nevezis players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lietkabelis maintains second position with 14-7 record having five points less than leader Zalgiris, which they share with Rytas. Loser Nevezis dropped to the seventh place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Siauliai and P.Zvaigzdes. Lietkabelis will meet bottom-ranked Dzukija (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nevezis will play against the league's leader Zalgiris and hope to secure a win.
