Regular Season Round 24: SumDU - KDPU 99-94

There was a minor upset when top-ranked KDPU (20-2) lost to third ranked SumDU (15-5) in Sumy 94-99 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 35-22. But KDPU won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SumDU made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. KDPU was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for point guard Igor Starodub (187-97) who led his team to a victory with 38 points (!!!) and 6 assists. Point guard Georgiy Altuhov (180-96) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Power forward Andriy Kulish (204-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and Sergiy Starcev added 26 points and 6 assists in the effort for KDPU. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SumDU have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-5 record having five points less than leader KDPU. Loser KDPU still keeps top place with two games lost. SumDU will face league's second-placed Niko-Basket in Mykolaiv in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. KDPU will play at home against DYUSH-DOR and hope to win that game.
