Regular Season Round 22: P.Zvaigzdes - Zalgiris 74-77

Eighth-ranked P.Zvaigzdes (6-15) gave a tough game to first ranked Zalgiris (19-2) in Pasvalys on Saturday. The visitors from Kaunas managed to secure only three-point victory 77-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 23-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American Nigel Hayes (203-94, college: Wisconsin) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) chipped in 10 points and 5 assists during the contest. Zalgiris' coach Sarunas Jasikevicius used entire bench in such tough game. At the losing side Slovenian Miha Lapornik (193-93) responded with 20 points and American forward Mike Bruesewitz (201-90, college: Wisconsin, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 17 points. Four Zalgiris and five P.Zvaigzdes players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first position with 19-2 record. P.Zvaigzdes at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Siauliai and Nevezis. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. P.Zvaigzdes will play at home against Dzukija and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
