There was a minor upset in Guimaraes where 8th ranked Vitoria SC (6-10) was defeated by tenth ranked G.S.C. (4-10) 74-70 on Sunday. G.S.C. forced 19 Vitoria SC turnovers. Strangely Vitoria SC outrebounded G.S.C. 46-29 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Morgan Batey (178-94, college: Vanderbilt) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds and Mariana Teixeira (179-1) who added 17 points during the contest. Four G.S.C. players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward ALexus Harrison (188-95, college: St.Francis, PA) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 18 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) and Sara Ressurreicao (170-93) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Newly promoted G.S.C. maintains tenth position with 4-10 record. Vitoria SC lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with ten games lost. They share the position with CP Natacao. G.S.C. will meet at home higher ranked AD Vagos (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vitoria SC will play against Carnide and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
