Very important is a road loss of second ranked Herford (15-6) against ninth ranked Leverkusen 2 (10-10) on Friday night. Visiting Herford was defeated by Leverkusen 2 in Leverkusen 90-74. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Herford. They outrebounded Herford 52-40 including a 39-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Leverkusen 2 players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a great evening for center Benjamin Nick (206-97, college: Whitworth) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Montenegrin center Dzemal Selimovic (205-99) helped adding 11 points and 13 rebounds. Leverkusen 2's coach Matt Watson used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side point guard Ole Wendt (190-92) responded with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Five Leverkusen 2 and four Herford players scored in double figures. Leverkusen 2 moved-up to eighth place in West, which they share with Hagen BG. Herford at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. They share it with Rhoendorf. Leverkusen 2 will play against Hagen-Haspe (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Herford will play against Ibbenbueren (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
