Regular Season Round 18: Gemlik - Final Spor 92-95

Thirteenth-ranked Gemlik (5-13) made lots of trouble for sixth ranked Final Spor (11-7) in Bursa. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 95-92. However their fans expected much easier game. Final Spor players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American point guard Marlain Veal (175-96, college: SE Louisiana) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the effort and guard Serhat Ugur (192-85) supported him with 22 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Final Spor players scored in double figures. Even 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds by American forward Gary Johnson (201-88, college: Texas) did not help to save the game for Gemlik. His fellow American import point guard Diante Watkins (174-90, college: Robert Morris) added 21 points and 12 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Final Spor moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Gemlik keeps the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. Final Spor's next round opponent will be Akhisar Bld (#6) at home. Gemlik will play against Manisa (#7) and hope to win that game.
