Seventh-ranked Esgueira / Oli (7-12) gave a tough game to third ranked FC Porto (16-3) on Saturday. The visitors from Porto managed to secure only three-point victory 76-73. However their fans expected much easier game. FC Porto looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American center Noah Starkey (211-97, college: S.Nazarene, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Francisco Amarante (196-0) helped adding 12 points and 4 steals. Five FC Porto players scored in double figures. FC Porto's coach Moncho Lopez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Montell Goodwin (188-95, college: EIU) responded with 22 points and 4 assists and guard Gustavo Brandao (185-0) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. FC Porto maintains third place with 16-3 record having just two points less than leader Sporting. Esgueira / Oli lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. FC Porto are looking forward to face Vitoria SC (#4) in Guimaraes in the next round. Esgueira / Oli will play on the road against the league's leader Sporting (#1) in Lisbona and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
