There was no surprise in Vilnius where 8th ranked P.Zvaigzdes (6-16) was defeated by third ranked Rytas (15-7) 97-89 on Saturday. P.Zvaigzdes trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 29-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 89-97 at the end of the game. Rytas made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for the former international guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (188-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points. Mexican guard Francisco Cruz (191-89, college: Wyoming) helped adding 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Rytas' coach Dainius Adomaitis used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Mike Bruesewitz (201-90, college: Wisconsin, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 13 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import guard John Gillon (183-94, college: Syracuse) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Four P.Zvaigzdes players scored in double figures. Rytas moved-up to second place, which they share with Lietkabelis. Loser P.Zvaigzdes dropped to the seventh position with 16 games lost. They share it with Siauliai and Nevezis. Rytas will meet Juventus (#4) in the next round. P.Zvaigzdes will play against Dzukija and hope to secure a win.
