Regular Season Round 26: Niko-Basket - SumDU 85-83

A very close game took place in Mykolaiv between Niko-Basket and SumDU. Second ranked Niko-Basket (18-4) got a very close home victory over one of their biggest challengers SumDU (15-7). Niko-Basket managed to escape with a 2-point win 85-83 in the fight for the second place. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SumDU won fourth quarter 19-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Niko-Basket made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was swingman Maxim Shepil (197-86) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Vadim Zaplotinskiy (200-97) chipped in 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Igor Starodub (187-97) produced 26 points and 4 assists and forward Ilya Kabatsiura (195-96) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four SumDU players scored in double figures. Niko-Basket have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-4 record behind leader KDPU. Loser SumDU keeps the third place with seven games lost. Niko-Basket will meet DYUSH-DOR (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. SumDU will play against Mariupol (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
