Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (13-6) beat at home 12th ranked Braunschweig (7-10) 98-81 on Wednesday. Crailsheim Merlins made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Braunschweig only scored eight points from the stripe. Crailsheim Merlins looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Dewayne Russell (180-94, college: GCU) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 assists. The former international guard Maurice Stuckey (187-90) chipped in 26 points (perfect from downtown making all seven shots !!!). Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. American point guard Trevor Releford (183-91, college: Alabama) produced 22 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import power forward Scott Eatherton (206-91, college: Northeastern, agency: BeoBasket) added 14 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Braunschweig's coach Pete Strobl tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Crailsheim Merlins have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 13-6 record. Loser Braunschweig keeps the twelfth place with ten games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will meet Hamburg (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Braunschweig will play against BG Goettingen (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
