Regular Season Round 25: Trier - Heidelberg 97-104

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Trier where 5th ranked Gladiators (13-10) were defeated by sixth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (14-10) 104-97 on Wednesday. MLP Academics Heidelberg looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American point guard Zamal Nixon (186-89, college: Houston) stepped up and scored 22 points and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Davonte Lacy (193-93, college: WSU) chipped in 24 points. At the losing side American guard Jordan Geist (188-97, college: Missouri, agency: 3Eye) responded with 38 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and Jamaican-Canadian forward Jermaine Bucknor (201-83, college: Richmond) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. MLP Academics Heidelberg have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nuernberg. Loser Gladiators dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will meet at home Phoenix Hagen (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gladiators will play against Uni Baskets (#9) in Paderborn and hope to secure a win.
