Second Stage Round 5: Vytis - Zalgiris II 84-88

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Sakiai where 5th ranked Vytis (17-17) was defeated by sixth ranked Zalgiris II (17-16) 88-84 on Thursday. Zalgiris II dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Vytis' 32. Zalgiris II forced 19 Vytis turnovers. Forward Erikas Venskus (205-0) stepped up and scored 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Vitalijus Kozys (201-99) chipped in 17 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Paulius Beliavicius (196-88) responded with 15 points and 4 steals and the former international center Darjus Lavrinovic (212-79) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zalgiris II have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Delikatesas. Loser Vytis dropped to the seventh position with 17 games lost. Zalgiris II will face Delikatesas (#6) in Joniskis in the next round. Vytis will play on the road against the league's leader Telsiai in Telsiu and hope to win that game.
