Regular Season Round 29: Heidelberg - Bayer Giants 99-75

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg's (16-12) home victory over 6th ranked Bayer Giants (14-13) 99-75 on Sunday. MLP Academics Heidelberg made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Bayer Giants were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Davonte Lacy (193-93, college: WSU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import point guard Zamal Nixon (186-89, college: Houston) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. Five MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. American forward Nick Hornsby (201-95, college: Sacramento St.) answered with 21 points and 4 assists and Serbian guard Nino Celebic (191-91) added 17 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Bayer Giants. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. MLP Academics Heidelberg moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nuernberg. Newly promoted Bayer Giants dropped to the seventh position with 13 games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will have a break next round. Bayer Giants will play at home against Lions (#15) and hope to win that game.
