There was a small surprise when tenth ranked BasCats Heidelberg (6-14) won against on the road 8th ranked Goettingen (7-11) 63-52 on Sunday. They outrebounded Goettingen 49-28 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Pele Gianotti (180-95, college: UC Davis) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Her fellow American import power forward Victoria Harris (191-96, college: Rutgers) accounted for 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Croatian forward Ivana Blazevic (184-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Megan Mullings (185-92, college: Alaska-Anch.) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Goettingen in the defeat. BasCats Heidelberg moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Marburg. Loser Goettingen keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. BasCats Heidelberg will meet at home higher ranked Osnabrueck SC (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Goettingen will play against XCYDE Angels Noerdlingen and hope to secure a win.
