Second Stage Round 8: Satu Mare - Sf.Gheorghe 69-65

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Sf.Gheorghe (12-1) on the court of second ranked Satu Mare on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Satu Mare 69-65. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Sf.Gheorghe won second period 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Satu Mare made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American Bernice Mosby (186-84, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Lauren Ervin (191-85, college: Arkansas) who added 15 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. American-North Macedonian Chrissy Givens (180-85, college: MTSU) responded with 17 points and the former international forward Andra-Simina Mandache (185-81) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Satu Mare maintains second position with 9-3 record having four points less than leader Targu Secuiesc. Defending champion Sf.Gheorghe still keeps top place with one game lost. Satu Mare are looking forward to face CSM Targoviste (#4) on the road in the next round. Sf.Gheorghe will play against Arad and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
