Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Yambol (2-17) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Academik Plovdiv (8-11) 77-61. Academik Plovdiv players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Shakir Smith (185-92, college: Adams St.) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. International Vasil Bachev (195-92, college: Cuesta JC) accounted for 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Canadian forward Richard Amardi (206-90, college: Oregon) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Stephen Croone (183-94, college: Furman) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Yambol in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Academik Plovdiv moved-up to sixth place. Yambol lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Academik Plovdiv will play against Spartak Pleven (#9) at home in the next round. Yambol will play against Beroe and hopes to get back on the winning track.
