Second Stage Round 4: Cluj Napoca - Steaua B. 96-69

The game between Top Four teams took place in Cluj Napoca. Second ranked host Cluj Napoca (14-3) smashed 4th ranked Steaua B. (7-10) 96-69. It looked good early as Steaua B. took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cluj Napoca had a 30-8 second period charge getting the lead and Steaua B. was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-96. Cluj Napoca dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Steaua B.'s 32 and made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Steaua B. 46-31 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for Croatian power forward Karlo Zganec (206-95) who helped to win the game recording 8 points and 16 rebounds. American swingman Patrick Richard (196-90, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Radu Virna (190-97) replied with 18 points and Serbian point guard Strahinja Jovanovic (185-96, agency: BeoExcell) added 10 points and 6 assists in the effort for Steaua B.Four Steaua B. players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cluj Napoca maintains second position with 14-3 record behind leader Constanta. Steaua B. at the other side keeps the fourth place with ten games lost. Cluj Napoca's next round opponent will be league's leader Oradea at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Steaua B.'s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bucuresti CS Dinamo Bucuresti.
