Regular Season Round 21: Speyer - Baunach 78-85

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Speyer (9-11) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Baunach (12-9) 85-78 on Saturday. Baunach looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Point guard Marvin Heckel (190-97) stepped up and scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Austrian center Daniel Koeppel (211-0) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Baunach's coach Mario Dugandzic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Dominican-Spanish power forward Michel Acosta (201-92) with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American guard DJ Woodmore (190-92, college: Va.Wesleyan) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Baunach. They moved-up to third place in South, which they share with Hanau. Newly promoted Speyer keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Baunach will face league's second-placed Wuerzburg at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Speyer will play against Oberhaching (#11) and hope to win that game.
