Regular Season Round 27: Jena - Trier 85-84

Seventh-ranked Gladiators (13-12) gave a tough game to third ranked Science City Jena (17-8) on Sunday. Science City Jena managed to secure only one-point victory 85-84. However their fans expected much easier game. Science City Jena made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Science City Jena had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American center Alex Herrera (206-92, college: Fort Lewis, agency: Two Points) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Naturalized Polish swingman Dennis Nawrocki (193-92) helped adding 14 points. Five Science City Jena players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Jordan Geist (188-97, college: Missouri, agency: 3Eye) with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Till Gloger (204-93, college: Maine) scored 18 points. Gladiators' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Science City Jena have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 17-8 record having seven points less than leader Chemnitz. Gladiators lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Science City Jena are looking forward to face Bayer Giants (#6) in Leverkusen in the next round. Gladiators will play on the road against Phoenix Hagen and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
