Top ranked Chemnitz (24-2) recorded its second loss in Paderborn on Friday night. Visitors were edged by seventh ranked Uni Baskets (14-11) 92-91. It ended at the same time the 22-game winning streak of Chemnitz. Strangely Chemnitz outrebounded Uni Baskets 33-20 including a 23-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Demetrius Ward (188-90, college: W.Michigan) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. The other American import guard Kendale McCullum (185-96, college: Lewis, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 22 points and 7 assists. Ward is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Uni Baskets players scored in double figures. Guard Malte Ziegenhagen (195-91, college: Keiser) produced 22 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and American point guard Virgil Matthews (191-83, college: Montana) added 9 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Chemnitz's coach Rodrigo Pastore rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Uni Baskets have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Chemnitz at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Uni Baskets are looking forward to face Artland Dragons (#15) in Quakenbrueck in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Chemnitz will play at home against Kirchheim Knights (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
