No shocking result in a game when first ranked Karlsruhe SC (22-1) won against on the road 10th ranked Giessen Pointers (10-13) 85-73 on Saturday. They outrebounded Giessen Pointers 47-35 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Karlsruhe SC looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Rouven Roessler (198-80) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points. Center Eyke Prahst (209-97) helped adding 6 points and 17 rebounds. Four Karlsruhe SC players scored in double figures. American forward Tyrell Sturdivant (201-95, college: Stony Brook) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Lucas Mayer (183-99) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Giessen Pointers' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Karlsruhe SC. They maintain first place in South-West with 22-1 record. Loser Giessen Pointers dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost. Karlsruhe SC will face Tuebingen 2 (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Giessen Pointers will play against Ulm BBU 01 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
