Regular Season Round 23: Recklinghausen - Leverkusen 2 68-76

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Recklinghausen (14-9) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Leverkusen 2 (13-10) 76-68 on Saturday. Leverkusen 2 forced 19 Recklinghausen turnovers and outrebounded them 50-37 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for guard Lennard Winter (195-0) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Montenegrin center Dzemal Selimovic (205-99) helped adding 10 points and 16 rebounds. Leverkusen 2's coach Matt Watson used entire bench saving starting five for next games. American guard Antoine Myers (191-90, college: Troy) responded with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Niklas Meesmann (186-98) scored 16 points. Five Leverkusen 2 and four Recklinghausen players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Leverkusen 2. They moved-up to sixth place in West. Loser Recklinghausen keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Leverkusen 2 will face Hagen BG (#9) at home in the next round. Recklinghausen will play against Ibbenbueren (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
