Regular Season Round 22: Sporting - Barreirense 97-67

LPB top team - Sporting (21-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Barreirense (7-15) in Lisbona 97-67. Sporting dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Barreirense's 28. They outrebounded Barreirense 56-24 including a 21-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sporting players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Barreirense's players. Nigerian forward Abdul-Malik Abu (203-95, college: NC State) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and American forward Travante Williams (197-93, college: Alaska-Fairb., agency: Duran International) supported him with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Four Sporting players scored in double figures. Sporting's coach Luis Magalhaes felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 26 points and 5 rebounds by swingman Jalen Jones (201-93, college: Texas A&M) did not help to save the game for Barreirense. American forward Jabari McGhee (201-94, college: Austin Peay) added 13 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Sporting have an impressive 17-game winning streak. Newly promoted Sporting maintains first position with 21-1 record. Barreirense lost fifth consecutive game. Barreirense at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Sporting will play against Oliveirense (#4) in Oliveira in the next round. Barreirense will play at home against Illiabum (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
