Regular Season Round 29: Schalke - Karlsruhe PS 98-91

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 15th ranked Lions (9-18) lost on the road to sixteenth ranked Schalke (8-19) 98-91 on Wednesday. Lions were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Courtney Belger (187-89, college: Quincy) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import point guard Shavar Newkirk (183-96, college: St.Joseph's) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. Center Maurice Pluskota (208-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Marcus Stroman (188-96, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Haylett Sports) added 20 points in the effort for Lions. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Schalke maintains sixteenth place with 8-19 record. Loser Lions keep the fifteenth position with 18 games lost. Schalke will face higher ranked Phoenix Hagen (#11) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
