Fourth ranked EWE Baskets (2-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked Crailsheim Merlins (0-4) 85-83 on Friday evening. The guests were ahead by 6 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 25-21 run, which allowed them to win the game. EWE Baskets had a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (211-90, agency: BeoBasket) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. American power forward Nathan Boothe (206-94, college: Toledo) helped adding 16 points and 6 rebounds. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic used entire bench in such tough game. At the losing side Fabian Bleck (200-93) responded with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international guard Maurice Stuckey (187-90) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets moved-up to second place, which they share with Bayern. Crailsheim Merlins at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
