Second Stage Round 9: Bayern - EWE Baskets 81-89

The biggest surprise of round 9 was guest EWE Baskets' (3-1) road victory over second-best Bayern Muenchen (2-2) 89-81 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bayern Muenchen. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 47-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (211-90, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Ian Hummer (201-90, college: Princeton) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Paul Zipser (203-94, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and international power forward Danilo Barthel (208-91, agency: Octagon Europe) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Bayern Muenchen's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. EWE Baskets have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Defending champion Bayern Muenchen dropped to the third position with two games lost.
