Regular Season Round 1: Zalgiris - Siauliai 89-56
Date: September 20, 2020
There was no surprise in Kaunas where Siauliai was crushed by Zalgiris 89-56 on Sunday. The game without a history. Zalgiris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Siauliai to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Siauliai 39-27 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Siauliai's players. French power forward Joffrey Lauvergne (211-91, agency: BeoBasket) fired 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international Marius Grigonis (198-94) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. American forward Ryan Anderson (206-92, college: Arizona) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and Belgian power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary) added 14 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris will face Lietkabelis in Panevezys in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Siauliai will play at home against Dzukija and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
