Regular Season Round 5: Lietkabelis - Siauliai 101-76

Bottom-ranked Siauliai (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 101-76 loss to third ranked Lietkabelis (5-2) in Panevezys. It looked good early as Siauliai took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lietkabelis had a 32-14 second period charge getting the lead and Siauliai was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-101. Lietkabelis dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Siauliai's 32. They outrebounded Siauliai 37-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Lietkabelis players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. International guard Paulius Valinskas (191-95) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Margiris Normantas (194-96) contributed with 15 points and 6 assists for the winners. Five Lietkabelis players scored in double figures. Icelandic point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94, college: Barry) answered with 20 points and 4 assists and power forward Arminas Urbutis (206-86, college: Hofstra, agency: Octagon Europe) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Siauliai. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Lietkabelis. They maintain third place with 5-2 record behind leader Rytas. Siauliai lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Lietkabelis will play against Juventus (#5) in Utena in the next round. Siauliai will play on the road against Nevezis (#4) in Kedainiai and hopes to get finally their first victory.
