Regular Season Round 4: Petkim - Bursaspor 108-80
Date: October 17, 2020
Socar Petkim can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they outplayed much higher ranked Bursaspor (2-2) 108-80 on Saturday. Socar Petkim dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Bursaspor's 32 and had 24 for 33 from the free-throw line, while Bursaspor only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Bursaspor 37-19 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Socar Petkim looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Bursaspor was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Thomas Wimbush (201-93, college: Fairmont St.) fired a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. The other American import guard Kendrick Ray (188-94, college: KSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 assists. Four Socar Petkim players scored in double figures. Point guard Omer Ilyasoglu (193-1, agency: BeoBasket) produced 18 points and 7 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international guard Ender Arslan (188-83) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Defending champion (1-3) left bottom position moving up to twelfth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Bursaspor dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Socar Petkim will face league's second-placed Fenerbahce in Istanbul in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bursaspor's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bursa Tofas.
