Regular Season Round 6: Zaporizhye - Kyiv Basket 70-106

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Zaporizhye (5-1) in Zaporozhye on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Kyiv Basket (7-0) 106-70. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Zaporizhye. The game was mostly controlled by Kyiv Basket. Zaporizhye managed to win third quarter 28-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kyiv Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Zaporizhye's 34. They outrebounded Zaporizhye 44-24 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kyiv Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Zaporizhye's players. International power forward Sergiy Pavlov (204-97) had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Bruce Massey (190-90, college: MTSU) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. Five Kyiv Basket players scored in double figures. Kyiv Basket's coach Ainars Bagatskis felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Josh Fortune (196-94, college: Colorado) with 12 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Mike Caffey (183-93, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) scored 10 points and 8 assists. Kyiv Basket have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-0 record. Zaporizhye at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Prometey. Kyiv Basket are looking forward to face Prometey (#3) in Kamianske in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Zaporizhye will play at home against Ternopil-TNEU and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
