Regular Season Round 7: Budivelnyk - Cherkasy 73-68

Bottom-ranked Cherkasy (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 73-68 loss to ninth ranked Budivelnyk (2-4) in Kyiv on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-68. Budivelnyk made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Cherkasy turnovers. Strangely Cherkasy outrebounded Budivelnyk 45-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Budivelnyk made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for the former international guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) who led his team to a victory scoring 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Guard Roman Kozlov (190-90) helped adding 15 points. At the losing side center Dmytro Skapintsev (209-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and Bosnian power forward Sead Hadzifejzovic (202-89, agency: 011 Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Cherkasy players scored in double figures. Budivelnyk moved-up to sixth place, which they share with K.Sokoly. Cherkasy lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Budivelnyk's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kyiv to the arena Kyiv Basket.
