Regular Season Round 8: Galatasaray - Cankaya 95-90

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Istanbul. Third ranked Galatasaray faced 4th ranked Cankaya. Host Galatasaray (7-1) defeated guests from Ankara (5-2) 95-90. Galatasaray dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cankaya's 34. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. American guard Courtney Williams (173-94, college: S.Florida) orchestrated the victory with a triple-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals. The other American import center Mercedes Russell (198-95, college: Tennessee) contributed with 23 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Croatian-American guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) replied with 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 6 assists and American point guard Tan White (170-82, college: MSU) added 28 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Cankaya. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Galatasaray have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Nesibe. Cankaya at the other side keeps the fourth position with two games lost. Galatasaray will play against Izmit (#6) in Kocaeli in the next round. Cankaya will play at home against Adana Basket and hopes to get back on the winning track.
