There was a surprise result in Paderborn where eleventh ranked Uni Baskets (2-2) defeated higher ranked Science City Jena (1-1) 94-86 on Friday. Uni Baskets made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Science City Jena was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Bosnian point guard Robert Drijencic (193-96) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American point guard Demetrius Ward (188-90, college: W.Michigan) who added 18 points during the contest. Ward is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side center Robin Lodders (206-94) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Demarcus Holland (193-94, college: Texas) scored 17 points. Four Uni Baskets and five Science City Jena players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Uni Baskets moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Science City Jena dropped to the ninth position with one game lost. Uni Baskets will face Artland Dragons (#4) in Quakenbrueck in the next round. Science City Jena will play on the road against Bayer Giants (#5) in Leverkusen and hope to win that game.
