Regular Season Round 8: Siauliai - Neptunas 93-88

Siauliai's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after seven consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Neptunas (2-5) 93-88 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-16. But Neptunas won third quarter 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai made 32-of-40 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game, while Neptunas only scored ten points from the stripe. The winners were led by Icelandic point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94, college: Barry) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Belgian power forward Andy Van-Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary) supported him with 18 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Four Siauliai players scored in double figures. Even 25 points by guard Martynas Mazeika (193-85, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Neptunas. Swingman Matas Jogela (201-98) added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Siauliai maintains tenth position with 1-7 record. It was Neptunas' fifth loss in a row. They keep the eighth place with five games lost. Siauliai will meet at home higher ranked Prienai CBet (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Neptunas will play against P.Zvaigzdes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
