Regular Season Round 5: Art.Dragons - Paderborn 93-77

Everything could happen in Quakenbrueck at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Artland Dragons and 7th ranked Uni Baskets had identical 2-2 record. This time Artland Dragons used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Paderborn 93-77 on Sunday night. Artland Dragons dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Uni Baskets' 38. They outrebounded Uni Baskets 42-23 including 27 on the defensive glass. American Gerel Simmons (188-93, college: LMU) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) and 6 assists for the winners and naturalized American point guard Zachary Ensminger (195-1) chipped in 10 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Artland Dragons' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Demetrius Ward (188-90, college: W.Michigan) responded with 12 points and 8 assists and the other American import point guard Drew Cushingberry (191-96, college: Ferris St.) scored 15 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Artland Dragons (3-2) moved-up to third place. Loser Uni Baskets dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. They share it with Nuernberg and Bayer Giants. Artland Dragons will meet league's leader Eisbaeren Bremerhaven on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Uni Baskets will play against the league's second-placed Rostock (#2) and hope to secure a win.
