We should mention about the upset which took place in Leverkusen, where higher ranked Bayer Giants (2-3) lost at home to ninth ranked Science City Jena (2-1) 65-72 on Sunday. Science City Jena made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Julius Wolf (203-93) stepped up and scored 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American-Latvian center Andrew Smith (205-92, college: Liberty) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. American Grant Dressler (201-97, college: Chaminade) responded with 17 points and center Dennis Heinzmann (216-91) scored 5 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Science City Jena moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Heidelberg. Loser Bayer Giants dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. They share it with Paderborn and Nuernberg. Science City Jena will meet Nuernberg (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Bayer Giants will play against Schwenningen and hope to secure a win.
