Regular Season Round 9: Cherkasy - Mykolaiv 85-81

Cherkasy has finally registered their first victory this season after nine consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Mykolaiv (1-7) 85-81 on Thursday. Mykolaiv trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 28-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-85 at the end of the game. Strangely Mykolaiv outrebounded Cherkasy 44-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cherkasy made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was swingman Ivan Tkachenko (199-97) who scored 31 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Center Dmytro Skapintsev (209-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was Maks-Adam Konate (202-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and American guard Darnell Edge (188-97, college: FDU) added 24 points respectively. Four Mykolaiv players scored in double figures. Cherkasy maintains eleventh place with 1-9 record. It was Mykolaiv's third loss in a row. They keep the tenth position with seven games lost. Cherkasy will meet at home higher ranked K.Sokoly (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mykolaiv will play against K.Sokoly and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
