Regular Season Round 9: Zaporizhye - Prometey 80-89

The game between Top Four teams took place in Zaporozhye. 4th placed host Zaporizhye (5-4) lost to third ranked Prometey (7-3) 89-80. It looked good early as Zaporizhye took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Prometey had a 27-17 second period charge getting the lead and Zaporizhye was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-89. Prometey made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. Zaporizhye was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Marcquise Reed (190-95, college: Clemson, agency: Pensack Sports) nailed 21 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman DJ Stephens (195-90, college: Memphis) accounted for 23 points. Prometey's coach Vitaliy Cherniy allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Mike Caffey (183-93, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists and the former international forward Alexander Sizov (197-88) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for Zaporizhye in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Prometey maintains third place with 7-3 record having just one point less than leader Kyiv Basket. Zaporizhye lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Ternopil-TNEU. Prometey will play against Budivelnyk (#8) in Kyiv in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zaporizhye will play on the road against Budivelnyk (#8) in Kyiv and hopes to get back on the winning track.
