Regular Season Round 6: Samsun - Istanbul 89-69

Bottom-ranked Istanbul (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 89-69 loss to eighth ranked Samsun (3-2) in Samsun on Sunday evening. Samsun outrebounded Istanbul 42-17 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. American-Brazilian center Tim Soares (211-97, college: Master's) scored 28 points and 7 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Ahmet Cantitiz (193-92) chipped in 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Samsun players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Tarik Sezgun (208-1, agency: BeoBasket) with 21 points and 5 rebounds and guard Enes Bayraktar (186-2) scored 16 points and 9 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Samsun have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Bornova and Manisa. Istanbul at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with five games lost. Samsun will meet Ankara Basket (#9) on the road in the next round. Istanbul will play against Kagitspor (#13) in Izmit and hopes to get finally their first victory.
