Regular Season Round 9: St.Poelten - Timberwolves 103-63

There was no surprise in St.Poelten where 8th ranked Timberwolves (2-7) were crushed by third ranked UBC St. Poelten (4-3) 103-63 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by UBC St. Poelten. Timberwolves was better in third quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBC St. Poelten dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Timberwolves' 28. UBC St. Poelten forced 22 Timberwolves turnovers and outrebounded them 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Timberwolves' players. Timberwolves were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Croatian center Zvonimir Cutuk (205-94) who scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Steven Kaltenbrunner (186-98) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four UBC St. Poelten players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Bosnian forward Nemanja Nikolic (202-89) who recorded 15 points and 6 rebounds and guard Jakob Szkutta (188-99) added 11 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory UBC St. Poelten went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Wels. Loser Timberwolves dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. UBC St. Poelten will face higher ranked BC Vienna (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Timberwolves will play against UBSC Graz (#4) and hope to win that game.
