Regular Season Round 5: Rheinland - Rotenburg 84-49

Very expected game when 9th ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (1-3) was smashed by second ranked Rheinland (4-1) in Bergisch Gladbach 84-49 on Saturday. Rheinland forced 20 Rotenburg/Scheessel turnovers and outrebounded them 44-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Rachel Theriot (183-94, college: Nebraska, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international forward Romy Baer (187-87) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Coach Mario Zurkowski's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Mirja Beckmann (187-98) came up with 16 points and 8 rebounds and forward Hannah Pakulat (181-94) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Rotenburg/Scheessel in the defeat. Rheinland keeps a position of North leader, which they share with Duesseldorf. Loser Rotenburg/Scheessel keeps the ninth place with three games lost. They share the position with Gruenberg. Rheinland will meet Blue Dolphins (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rotenburg/Scheessel will play against SG BBZ Opladen and hope to win that game.
