Regular Season Round 10: Lions - Deutsch-Wagram 56-66 OT
Date: December 5, 2020
Deutsch-Wagram can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Dornbirn, where they defeated Lions (1-8) 66-56. The guests were ahead by 3 points but lost the second period ending it with a 4-point deficit before their 13-9 run, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 14-4. Deutsch-Wagram dominated on the defensive end, holding Lions to just 7 points in second quarter. They held Lions to an opponent 24.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 30.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Deutsch-Wagram forced 29 Lions turnovers. Strangely Lions outrebounded Deutsch-Wagram 64-51 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Simon Marek (152-1) notched 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Serbian guard Nikola Letic (185-0) supported him with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Deutsch-Wagram's coach Lukas Hofer allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds by Lithuanian Benius Urbonavicius (200-97) did not help to save the game for Lions. Italian Gianluca Prosek (198-0) added 19 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Deutsch-Wagram (1-5) left bottom position moving up to ninth place. It was Lions' seventh loss in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Deutsch-Wagram's next round opponent will be higher ranked Nord Dragonz (#5) in Eisenstadt and it may be quite challenging game.
