Regular Season Round 5: Bayreuth - ALBA 69-71

A very interesting game took place in Bayreuth. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Bayreuth (2-2) to first ranked ALBA Berlin (4-1) 71-69 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bayreuth. They outrebounded Bayreuth 42-27 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. ALBA Berlin players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American forward Luke Sikma (202-89, college: Portland) nailed a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and international center Johannes Thiemann (206-94, agency: BeoBasket) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds. ALBA Berlin's coach Aito Garcia Reneses allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Frank Bartley-IV (190-94, college: La-Lafayette, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 17 points and 4 steals and the other American import Matt Tiby (203-92, college: Milwaukee) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Bayreuth in the defeat. Four Bayreuth players scored in double figures. ALBA Berlin have a solid series of four victories in a row. Despite that victory ALBA Berlin went down to fourth position due to points difference, which they share with Ludwigsburg and Oldenburg. Bayreuth at the other side dropped to the eighth place with two games lost. ALBA Berlin's next round opponent will be Brose Bamberg (#8) at home. Bayreuth will play against Braunschweig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
