We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Varna where 5th ranked Cherno More (2-3) was defeated by sixth ranked Balkan (2-1) 86-72 on Friday. Balkan outrebounded Cherno More 40-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Davonta Jordan (188-97, college: Buffalo) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Serbian center Darko Balaban (211-89) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Balkan players scored in double figures. Balkan's coach used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Forward Georgi Boyanov (201-93, college: USA) produced 24 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Aleksandar Milov (198-95) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Loser Cherno More dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Balkan will meet at home league's second-placed Rilski in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cherno More will play against Chernomorets (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
