Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Crailsheim Merlins and 5th ranked EWE Baskets had identical 4-1 record. This time Crailsheim Merlins used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Oldenburg 94-80 on Saturday night. Crailsheim Merlins outrebounded EWE Baskets 37-23 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. EWE Baskets were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Belgian swingman Elias Lasisi (191-92) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Canadian guard Trae Bell-Haynes (188-95, college: Vermont) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists for the winners. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. American Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) replied with 36 points (!!!) (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import point guard Braydon Hobbs (196-89, college: Bellarmine) added 16 points and 7 assists in the effort for EWE Baskets. EWE Baskets' coach rotated eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Crailsheim Merlins (5-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser EWE Baskets dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face Braunschweig (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. EWE Baskets will play against the league's leader Bayern Muenchen and hope to win that game.
