There was an upset in Frankfurt where higher ranked Bayreuth (3-4) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Skyliners (2-4) 104-86 on Saturday. Skyliners shot 63.6 percent from the field. Skyliners outrebounded Bayreuth 30-18 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Bayreuth's players. It was a great evening for Icelandic guard Jon-Axel Gudmundsson (195-96, college: Davidson) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 8 assists. Naturalized Swiss forward Michael Kessens (206-91, college: FIU) helped adding 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). At the losing side American guard Frank Bartley-IV (190-94, college: La-Lafayette, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 22 points and the other American import center Derek Pardon (203-96, college: Northwestern) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Skyliners moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Bayreuth keeps the tenth position with four games lost. Skyliners will face higher ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
